There was quite a lot of discussion about whether or not it's worth buying your own copy of Culpeper et al's English Language : Description, Variation and Context. Obviously, I do recommend this book and Amazon is currently selling it for under £18 (or £20 used, which doesn't make much sense), but by all means think carefully before you part with your money. IA902 will only make use of Part One (and in fact only the first 10 chapters) but the book is also useful for your Sociolinguistics module in the Spring, and it's generally interesting throughout! You can have a closer look at the book in the Learning Resource Centre (room 4.204) or in the Library. It's also worth knowing that I'll be giving you plenty of other reading material throughout the module, and the book certainly isn't the only resource we'll be making use of.
